Hi folks ok I have Rio and he came with seed only I am aware I need to get him onto a good diet can you suggest a supplier and what is best and they like

At firsy do not change her diet but offer her fruit and veg on top. Diets should be changed over a period of a month if possible, there are plenty of information in the food and diet threads that can guide you, I find with too's the bigger the variety of different tastes and textures the more your bird will enjoy the foods. Keep favorite food as a treat and for training. Buster loves his greens, I normally give this to him separately but he dose not like it diced as it is not so much fun as he cannot rip it apart.

Buster is the hardest bird to keep his cage clean, not only through dust and his destructive nature but every thing goes every where, He is so loving but his grip dose leave holes in my hands and arms, part of that is my fault as I do not trim his nails as he dose free fly and if he ever gets lost he will need to be able to scratch for food and also defend him self. the cleanest bird I have is by far is Oliver he hardly makes a mess poops in one place, ets all his foods and keeps any shells together in the bottom of his cage, Water always clean apart from when I add a little bird clay , very surprising as he is an Double yellow headed amazon, I am sure he has OCD Ha ha,

Michael he was a star we settled him down for bed at 8.30 and not a peep until I went in this morning at half eight. I made telephone contact with the Avian vet and had a long chat with the veterinary nurse who has parrots and was actually considering also rehoming Rio..... again advice has been just keep the routine you are trying to instill in him which isn’t easy as I want to go and smother him as I am off... he has had a few fits where he has squawked his feather off lol lol but nothing bad that I couldn’t deal with... though the postman decided to have a chat with him through glass and that set him off as he walked away but all good .. I ordered labfers and the vet gave me info for Harrison’s but I think the move from his all seed diet will need to be taken slowly I don’t want him stressing with new place new people and new food.. he has been good so far however I contacted a local pet shop who sell parrot food as i needed to go that direction for work and was eaten by the owner because I have taken this boy without previous ownership and basically told not selling food to you .. so I am learning quickly that my support has come from here and also Umbrella cockatoos on Facebook which without you all I might not be coping as well .. so THANK YOU for putting Rio first and not giving off to me x x

What a pet shop that will refuse to sell you food for your Too, just because you was kind enough to take on a Too. every one has to have a first bird no matter if it is a Robin or a ostrich and no matter what bird you have it will be a first bird. I have never believed in any bird being a first bird, you have asked the correct questions and sort the best support. I would rater you take on a bird that you like and love it than one that will mean less to you, now all we need is photos

This is Rio

To be honest I was pretty gutted as I had taken quite a bit of a telling off in the hope of food being delivered which was advertised on the Facebook page but hey ho I have food organised and the avian vet contacted

I think you have made a lovely choice Rio looks so great and so friendly. you may need a pair of ear plugs now if you leave the room Ha Ha, to stop him becoming a one person bird try to introduce him to all that come to your home.

My youngest son is in with me mostly he is 20 :) he was playing a tiny piano for him earlier quite funny and hubby after getting a nip yesterday came and sat quietly in the corner and talked to him through the cage to make friends

Oh a fogort about feet mind you I have had a few budgies that like to attack feet with most too's as they like toes, I never go without footwear owing to a few of my flock including Buster,

I ordered nutriberries online and found an avian vet who sells Harrison’s so taking the vet advice .... thank you so much :)

Lots of local pet shops tend to stock very poor parrot food due to the amount they would sell. You can’t go wrong with scarlets or northanparrots good reliable online shops. As me and Michael have said routine routine it’s so important right now. even with three parrots in the house I think I would go mad with a too lol they can be so noisy. It’s brilliant your doing lots of research and have given a older bird a 2nd chance, don’t forget he won’t like everyone in your family and will have clear favs

He seems to love hubby and not me as much which is odd as hubby is scared of him but he might have had a male owner and then the pet shop he was in was owned by a man too sooo I can maybe see why he is loving them ... I can cope with that as long as he tolerates me

Oscar an LS Too was owned by a female for 15 years before he came to me, his favourite way of showing affection is to sink his beak deeply in my skin and taste the blood (a bit of flesh does not go amiss), yet he does not do this to my husband, he is the only one who can clean his tip up.

He is very, very clever, I think he is the brightest of my flock, he just does not seem to learn that not biting me would improve his life tremendously.
