Well it’s finally happened, I’d like you to welcome Bert to our household, only been a few hours so far, poor boys not had a lot of time out of cage so very nervous about hands etc

but will take treats from my hand through the cage which is a start we’ll give him time to adjust before asking to much of him.

he’s having a little nap at the moment.

very quiet but I’m sure that will change.

Hello Bert, welcome.
Maybe we can find out a little of his history in due course @Scott199
Hopefully yes, we don’t know a great deal at this point I think he was bought by his previous owner from a lady that kept him in a tiny cage and without much attention or cleaning, then she had him for sometime but kept him covered for long periods due to being at work, but no idea how true this is.

he’s on Harrison’s pellets (which i think is good ?)

dried banana seems to be his favourite treat at this point.

he’s certainly very hand shy, not really shy otherwise sits at the front of his cage and doesn’t move when we approach or talk to him, takes treats very gently, he’s talking a little says all right Bert, Bert and I think he's said “what” a few times

he does seem very healthy well looks anyway, he’s just sleeping mostly, think it’s been a long day for the poor little guy.

but hopefully they are going to send me all the background info

He looks beautiful 💕. When we first had Eddie, his little face was the last thing I thought of before I went to bed and the first thing I thought of when I woke up! Bet you are so excited!

Lol yes barely slept last night, woke up every hour or to wondering if he was ok downstairs, led listening for 10/15 minutes to see if I could hear him then fell back asleep.

I knew he would be fine but still couldn’t help waking up

Um...can birds have a cough or is he just mimicking a precious owner, if they can would it sound just like ours ?

It sounds like he’s got a smokers cough 😢

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a mimic, my friends used to do the telephone down to a T and laughed like mad when you picked up the phone. Did Bert come with any prior vet checks?

it does sound so real, it’s actually quite sweet in a horror house, scary movie type way 😂 and he cackles 😱

Just a little help please.

Bert doesn’t eat any nuts (is this a problem???) we tried walnut, Brazil, pine, hazelnut and some others.

and barely touched his veg yesterday, had BE25C1D0-DE52-42E5-AD14-3DC6B62B0DC7.jpega little broccoli and carrot but not much else, I’ll try different stuff.

He is eating his pellets (Harrison’s pic attached) very well. On the pack it says 15-30g per day, he’s been having 20g and today he’s just emptied his bowl, do I stick to 20g and see if he continues to empty it and add a little more or do I still to the 20/25g ? Problem is I can’t touch him so can’t weigh him.

So long as he's eating don't worry,he's still settling in. If the pack says up to 30g per day I guess that's okay.

Will he eat fruit - many like apple, orange, grapes corn on the cob , sugar snap peas, banana, raspberries, pomegranate, passion fruit etc. Just give him a dish with various fruit & veg in daily, don't give up. It took our late LSC 8yrs before he would touch a slice of corn on the cob, then decided he loved it!

Oh yes he loves apples, grapes, carrot and a little broccoli,

I was worried about to much fruit due to sugars and such, so we’ve reserved fruit for treats he gets 2-3 grapes a day and a slice or two of apple or am I just being overly cautious with fruit ?

All I can say is that we all do things differently.

All mine which these days include Amazon, Senegals, Moustached Parakeets have daily Tidymix parrot mix, fresh water of course, and a dish with various fruits & veg in, what they don't eat goes out for the wild birds. In the afternoon I usually pop in the dishes some unsalted nuts from Lidl cashews/walnuts/mixed nuts/pistachio only a selection of those, and anything else I think they may enjoy. In the summer they may need changing due to hot weather - when we get it - and sometimes the fruit flies are around. They also have millet spray now and then too which they all enjoy. Attached a photo to give a rough idea.
