Hi! First post here, really need some advice, preferably from someone with personal experience taming Rosellas?
I recently took in a rescue, my colleague said her husband found the bird in an abandoned house, in a cage, no idea for how long though- A blue Rosella. She said she did her best to look after him, but that he was in a cage with 2 other cockatiels, and that she could no longer keep him as he was "humping and harassing" one of her other birds. He's been pretty well adjusted, I think? After the first few days of having him he started singing and playing with his toys, took him a few more days to not freak out with us coming near his cage.
We've had him nearly a week now, and made some progress but I'm not sure if it's a lot, and whether taming him will be possible He'll take food/treats from my fingers but not from the palm of my hand, and he'll walk around/play with toys/eat from his bowl with me sitting at the door of the cage, but I'm not sure at all where to go from here. I understand that his breed does best in an aviary but can adjust if tamed, and I'd love to be able to let him out of his cage for the majority of most days but right now he wont step up, and the 3 times I've let him out I've had to towel him at the end of the day
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
