Hello Jordan and welcome I prefer parent reared birds and providing they are still young it just takes a little longer to gain there trust. I have found parent reared are more stable what species?
What species of amazon are you talking about also was the bird you have parent reared or hand reared?
If your bird was hand reared then the chances are slim it will be able to rear chicks. Has been known but is quite rare they successfully rear to fledging stage and often need a lot of assistance is getting the chick to fledging stage.
What would you intend to do with the young, got to remember can't keep them all so is breeding really a wise decision to make perhaps getting a friend for your bird to keep it company would be a better plan.
We have a lot of members with heaps of knowledge and can tag in a lot of them who have made friends with parent reared birds like KevH, Roz and CaptainHowdy Perhaps you need to think hard regarding if breeding is really the best idea, its hard work, nutritional knowledge, putting two together doesn't mean they are compatible nor that they will pair bond, it can be heart breaking loosing chicks, heart breaking rehoming them and then finding out that the bird hasn't ended up in the best home going....
Depending on the species also there is avian vet requirements when needed plus to be responsible you would have both adults disease tested to give a youngster a better chance of a healthy life, leg ringing, paperwork like hatch certificates or indeed if cites species then that has to be applied for and in place for parent birds and youngsters....
Ok so not too complicated if its a budgie but amazon wise more complicated, sorry can't remember the species you have so cites paperwork can be a possibility…. plus you have a few years to go before its of breeding age. Plus just because you choose a mate doesn't mean to say either of the birds are going to think you made a great choice for them. Heaps of stuff you need to learn about and time to go before anything gets to that stage if indeed it can be achieved at all.

Hi and yes I was thinking of sun conures but I would 100% not be hand rearing but I was thinking parent reared would be harder to tame from what people say but if handled several times a day from young in thinking it would be similar to hand reared or am I wrong? Thanks for the reply

Parent reared with human contact is ok if chicks are handled too much they can be rejected especially in the early stages
From my experience I'd have parent reared over handreared my 2 had zero human contact during rearing my double yellow Amazon is the tamest bird I have and all my greys are handreared but it's about how much time you put in with bird I had a bit of help from Gizmo my African grey coz the bird watched me interact all the time and slowly the parent reared amazon started doing the same as for other parentreared she's always been in an avairy bird but she still comes to me on recall as for breeding them mine arnt old enough yet but I don't plan on breeding
That's the answer in was looking for sorry for the late reply! I'm thinking of breeding sun conures but want to let the parents rear them as I work 16 hours and even that is to much when wanting to hand rear I have a amazon hand reared so may be a little easier to tame do you think?
