Loving this thread and the progress. Love the idea and the format of the aviary. Cant wait for the finished article.

Quick few question...

1. how will you stop rodents getting in?
2. Food area - what will it look like?
3. Cleaning the poop and food?Designated food area?
4. Stop chewing of the frames?

The stainless steel mesh will go on the inside of the wood frame so it's really unlikley and bloody difficult to get to the wood frame. I will just use wire mesh and have put some mesh in the concrete in some areas to stop rodents. The food area will be at the back with high up food bowls and the floors are all going to be sweepable and washable for easy cleaning. I'm building this for my kak Ringo lol yep just one small bird

Wow it looks incredible!!
Amazing. How long did it take you?

Where is Ringo living at the moment and what made you decide on the aviary for him?

I am also considering putting my (one) bird's cage inside an (indoor) aviary to give her more freedom while we are out (but while still letting her have the familiarity of her cage - she's getting on in years so I don't want to bring too many changes.)

Ringo is a nipper and has been since he was 6months old and with my young family and wife who is now scared of him I just can't let him out as much as I want. It's a beautiful sight to see him fly around the house like a ninja but his time out is limited now. So I decided to build a massive aviary so he could fly all-day every day and with his high hormone drive I might get him a girlfriend. He loves being outside in his cage so I feel he will adapt very quickly to this lavish lifestyle. I would say it's taken me 10 days of work to clear rubbish, lay foundations etc etc but I have been doing bits in between family life so it's dragged a bit over months and in between bad weather. He will still get lots of human contact and be able to watch my son play in the garden all day, he will have shelter from wind and rain and have lots of plants and branches to jump around on. I can't wait to see him in there

Got this stump that's been dead for a good 8+ years. I was thinking of cutting the bad bits off and making a feature of it n the aviary. However I don't know what tree it was but it is dry no sap. Safe to use???
