How To Sprout - Step By Step Guide

Can I feed adzuki beans to Plum that have been soaked for 24 hrs and I tried to sprout but no shoots appeared yet?

So my bird seed from the pet shop seems to be very sprouty also the sunflower seeds from the health shop are good but the pumpkin seeds from the health shop are either very slow or been heat treated???

I have searched the internet for an answer with no success. Personally I wouldn't feed soaked adzuki beans. Reason being is that you have to boil them rapidly for 10 mins, when cooking, to kill the toxins. They are certainly one of the safe legumes to sprout together with mung beans, lentils, chickpeas and peas. I have never seen adzuki beans in any commercial soaking mixes, but maybe someone else knows differently?

The seed from the pet shop is fresh! I'm betting the pumpkins have been heat treated - I have not been able to find a good source of untreated recently. Ha - Ringo can be a role model for the baby Grey when she arrives!

Yeh I haven't got any of those beans, I just went for basic things like sunflower and pumpkin, maybe I might have a slight sprout on on of my pumpkin seeds they might just be slower

Thanks @Roz so if they completely refuse to sprout I will bin them. Doing well on the mung beans now thanks, it was the sunflower seeds. :)

Yes so if they don't sprout bin them but what about the rest of the packet? Ok to feed ?

Yes, you can cook them and feed. :) I am just trying some adzuki beans - no sprouts as yet... one is looking promising! :pancarta: Got a new order from buywholefoodsonline.co.uk - very pleased with them. Organic kamut, spelt, wheat and quinoa are sprouting beautifully. Trying their organic broccoli sprouting seed too.

Sorry the sunflowers spoiled your mix, plumsmum. :(

No problems @Roz been good learning experience and extremely helpful under your tutelag. Aduki beans refusing to budge but will as an experiment keep them going until they are stinky. Wondering if they just take a longer time?

Only half my adzuki beans are beginning to sprout. Yes, they are taking much longer than the rest. I do find they take longer even in the summer, but I gave up after less and less sprouted.

Have to say it's fun to compare our successes and failures. :)

Fingers crossed for you, Yellowchickenparrot! Kobe, Ollie and Chico adore sprouted chickpeas.

I'm really surprised how Ringo has responded to them he's mad and scoffs the lot he likes them almost as much as carrot his favourite.

That's great he took to them so fast! :applaudit:

At last the adzuki beans are beginning to sprout. I think there's about 5 in there that haven't. They've taken a long time... 4 days so far? On the right are broccoli sprouts. They took a day longer than the mix of grains and legumes below:

Here is the new batch of grains and legumes that are doing so well. There's kamut, spelt, wheat, green lentils, puy lentils, mung, quinoa, sesame and safflower in there:
